Favourite Stories

The first lesson in this series allows your class to reflect on their favourite books before looking at some of the reasons why the Bible is a special book for Christians, using the inspirational story of the young Mary Jones to illustrate just how important the Bible is.

At Home and Church

This lesson looks at some of the ways the Bible is used as the basis for worship both at home and at church, focusing especially on how many worship songs take their lyrics directly from scripture. Children will have a look at some popular Christian worship songs and find out whereabouts in the Bible the words originate from.

Genres of Writing

The Bible is full of different genres of writing from poems and proverbs to letters and laws, and this lesson gives your class the opportunity to examine some of these different genres and investigate their different purposes.

Special Writing

This creative lesson gives your class the chance to compile their own special book by creating or recalling pieces of writing that are special to them, as well as looking at special stories, songs, laws and letters of the Bible.

Aspects of God

How do you see God? What images come to your mind? Your class will explore these questions in response to various Bible readings in this lesson as they think about how the different genres of writing within the Bible show different aspects of God and His personality.

Old and New Testaments

The final lesson in this series examines how and why the Bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament and allows your class to investigate the 66 books of the Bible and their locations in more detail.

This Year 3 RE Knowledge Organiser has been created to complement the study of the Christianity strand within our RE and worldviews resource offer. It is designed to support your children's understanding of key vocabulary and big ideas covered in this scheme of work, while signposting prior learning. Children are also encouraged to reflect on 'Ways of Knowing' about religion and worldviews, and to think deeply about the topic through the 'Thinking Questions' provided.
