Belief In Our Community

Get your children thinking about their own beliefs as well as those of others in their local community with these Key Stage Two R.E. lessons for Year 5/6 children. These ready-to-use lessons include plans, slides, worksheets and more, each with a number of challenging questions and activities for your class to consider, discuss and engage with.

This scheme of work is also part of a Topic Bundle. Perfect if you are teaching 'Me, Myself and I' as a cross-curricular topic.

 


Lesson 1: Our Local Area

What beliefs do we share? Challenge your children to consider what beliefs are shared in their school community, which of them are similar to those of other communities in their local area, and how religious beliefs help people in their day-to-day lives.

Lesson 2: My Community

In this lesson, children will consider how being part of a Jewish family affects a young girl's daily life. They will go on to think about their own religious or non-religious communities, including how being a part of them influences their beliefs and actions.

Lesson 3: Inspirational Figures

Children will learn all about the beliefs and achievements of two inspirational people in this exciting lesson, before diving into a choice of two challenging activities: researching a person who inspires them, or discussing the influence of celebrities and other well-known figures.

Lesson 4: Understanding Others

This lesson challenges children to consider some ways in which religious customs may be different to those in wider, non-religious communities. This Year 6 RE Knowledge Organiser has been created to complement the study of the Worldview Beliefs and Values strand within our RE and worldviews resource offer. It is designed to support your children's understanding of key vocabulary and big ideas covered in this scheme of work, while signposting prior learning. Children are also encouraged to reflect on 'Ways of Knowing' about religion and worldviews, and to think deeply about the topic through the 'Thinking Questions' provided.
